The City College, City University of New York, is an active site of DRP research. Professor Ross Nehm directs a laboratory in the Marshak Science Building at the College (shown above in the middle and right pictures). Dr. Nehm and his students conduct fieldwork in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic and work on detailed studies of living and extinct marine mollusks in the laboratory. Their lab research focuses on studying patterns and processes of species and community evolution in the Dominican Republic . Several research studies have resulted from this work (Nehm and Geary, 1994; Nehm, 1998; Nehm 2001a,b, c, d; Costa, Nehm and Hickman, 2001). Dr. Nehm is currently setting up research partnerships between The City College and academic institutions in the Dominican Republic in order to involve more Dominican and Dominican American scientists in the DRP. Currently, DRP research results, field data, and specimens are being shared with the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo's Center of Investigation of Marine Biodiversity (Centro de Investigaciones de Biologia Marina). DRP research results from the Nehm laboratory at The City College are also available to scientists, teachers, and students through the NMITA database (www.porites.uiowa.edu) and this website. If you are interested in working in the lab, conducting fieldwork, learning more about the DRP, or using the project in teaching, please contact Dr. Nehm (Rnehm@ccny.cuny.edu). DRP research at The City College is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
